Poor Courtney... :(

Well I did end up at the hospital last night, but not to deliver the baby like I was hoping to. After our fun on the trampoline yesterday the girls went over to my friend Jenn's house for the night. A couple ours after they left to go over there Jenn called and said, "You did say you wanted to go to the hospital tonight right?" :) All the kids were outside playing survivor, They were cutting open limes and making little drinks or something out of the juice. My girls don't have a lot of experience with knives so as Courtney was trying to cut open one of the limes she sliced right into her thumb. It was no surprise to me that it was Courtney. If anything every happens to one of my girls it is always my little Courtney. Jenn and Dave washed up the cut and determined that it was definitely worthy of a hospital visit and stitches. So off we went.

Courtney is my "sensitive" child (is that the nice way of saying dramatic? hah, jk) :) So I was surprised when Jenn told me she wasn't crying. That of course all changed once she brought her to me. She cried the whole way to the hospital. I felt really bad for her because I know how much it must have hurt.
Once we got there she was pretty brave. Until one of the doctors or nurses would mention that she would have to have a shot to numb the thumb and then they would do the stitches. The numbing shot is what she was most worried about, so every time they mentioned that she would burst into tears again. This was right after we were brought into the room and were waiting for the doctor.
She couldn't stand to look at it so any time someone took the paper towels off she had to cover her eyes. With this whole process we discovered how much of a bleeder Courtney is. She was splattered in blood from her neck to her feet, not to mention the nice blood trail she left at the Hurdsman's house. It was about an hour and a half from the time Jenn and Dave had wrapped her thumb in gauze to when the doctor took the gauze off to check the cut. (that is what is happening in  the picture below). The second she removed the gauze blood started gushing out and it never stopped until the last stitch was in. She asked me a couple of times if she was going to run out of blood in her body. :)
The doctor said that she was lucky not to have cut the nail or any nerves or tendons. She said it was a nice clean cut, but a very bad cut.
This is the nurse just prepping her for the numbing shot. She was pretty scared at this point.
While he was giving her the shot she was squeezing my hand so tight that it was turning nice shades of white and purple. (which she later found to be really funny)
After the worst part was over it was time for the stitches. She had about a million questions about stitches, and pain, and wanted to know everyone's past stitches stories. She was convinced that she could feel everything the nurse was doing, but every time she would say she felt it he didn't even have the needle near her. :) She was just really nervous until I was finally smart enough to give her my phone to watch videos on and then she was too distracted to worry about what the nurse was doing.
And here it is, 6 stitches later.
Before we left she gave a thumbs up with her new bandage on. (Jeanine can't resist a camera and had to jump in there too) We have to go back in ten days to get the stitches out.
After the hospital I took her back to Jenn's to spend the night. All the other kids were waiting up to see how she was doing. They were very sweet and very concerned about her. JR and Kaylee had even gone out and said a prayer for her after she left. All is well now and I think she will be much more careful with knives in the future.
